An endowment gift to Cornell College today provides highly important support for the college. When you make a donation to Cornell's endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits.

Here's how it works: Cornell's endowment is its financial foundation. It provides highly valuable resources for the college's current operations and programs, as well as a perpetual source of income for Cornell in the future. Endowment assets are professionally invested with oversight by the college's Board of Trustees. A portion of the annual income earned is used to support current expenses. The remaining funds are reinvested to ensure that the endowment provides the same or better opportunities for future generations of Cornell students.

Many alumni who benefited from the endowment when they were students choose to "pay forward" the support they received by contributing to the endowment for future Cornell students. Donors giving $50,000 or more are invited to create named endowed funds and to work with the college to discuss long-term funding priorities that they can support through a named endowment.

Here is a Potential Scenario

Couple SmilingLongtime supporters Susan and Charlie want to make sure Cornell College continues to flourish long after they're gone. They also want to provide Cornell students with important financial assistance like they received from the college. So they create an endowed scholarship fund at Cornell with a gift of $50,000. Each year a portion of the fund's income is awarded in scholarships and the remainder is reinvested, which will allow it to support future generations of Cornell students. Susan and Charlie receive a federal income tax charitable deduction on their taxes for their lump-sum gift.
